The Hawkeyes had their three-game winning streak snapped by Penn State in their last game, dropping them to number 19 in the top 25. They will try to bounce back from the loss and win their fourth game in their last five contests when they play the dangerous Boilermakers on Saturday.
Iowa’s defense is one of the best in the country this season, holding opponents to 16.1 points per game, which is 11th in the nation. The defense struggled against the Nittany Lions, giving up 30 points in the loss. They will face another tough offense this week against the Boilermakers, who average 33.1 points per game.
The defense will be without reserve defensive backs Trey Creamer and Matt Hankins, who were suspended for a week because they were cited for disorderly conduct. To beat the Hawkeyes, the Boilermakers have to play well on the offensive end like they did against the Buckeyes.
Offensively, the Hawkeyes have done well this season, averaging 29.8 points per game. Quarterback Nate Stanley has completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1,764 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He suffered a thumb injury in the fourth quarter of their loss to Penn State, but he isn’t expected to miss any time.
The Boilermakers followed up their blowout win over then second-ranked Ohio State with a road loss to the Michigan State Spartans, snapping their four-game winning streak. They will try to get back on track with another upset win when they face the Hawkeyes.
