On the other hand, the Patriots of George Mason halted a two game winning streak as they came up on the losing end on the road versus the Kansas State Wildcats as Despite a rally in the second half to where the visitors outscored the home team 42 – 23, their stellar play during this time was not able to allow them to pull out a victory as they struggled mightily early on in scoring just 16 points in the first half while allowing 36 points to the Wildcats en route to the loss. The road team is 6 – 2 against the spread in the last eight meetings amongst these two teams.
The Wildcats went up by a 36-16 score at the half on the George Mason Patriots in their last time out. George Mason, in turn, scored 42 points in the second half, yet, falling short of a completed rally as they lost by a slim, one point margin in the end to Kansas State, thus losing their second game in four outings. George Mason only hit six 3-pointers on the night while shooting 41% as Justin Kier chipped in 15 points on 6-14 shooting while Javon Green ended with 12 points along with nine rebounds to provide a lift for the Patriots.
Defensively, George Mason allowed Kansas State to only shoot slightly better at 41% from the floor on the night yet the Wildcats were able to get 20 points from Kamau Stokes as he went 5-7 from three-point range during the contest. Xavier Sneed also had three 3-pointers for Kansas State as he finished with 13 points along with nine rebounds in the all-important victory. Again, the defense for George Mason has certainly been their saving grace lately as they continue to step up in this area due to a severe lack of consistent offense, recently. Coming out of a funk may not be that easy versus a St Joseph’s team that has also locked opponents down lately while also possessing a similar offense that struggles, more often than not.
While it can be said that St. Joe’s is certainly not winning due to the strength of their offensive unit, as they have scored less than 60 points in their last three outings, overall. However, one can certainly say their defense has stepped things up in lieu of consistent offense as they have allowed opponents to post an average of 59 points during this time. The Hawks certainly had their fair share of troubles versus the Wagner Seahawks at home in their last outing as the visitors took a slim, three point lead at the half. And while the Seahawks continued to fight early on in the second half, St Joe’s began to pull away eventually as they outscored Wagner 34-29 in the second half en route to the much-needed victory.
